Gölcük

Volcano type: Caldera

Volcano number: 213801

Latitude: 37.72°N

Longitude: 30.492°E

Elevation: ~1380 m

Distance to Ankara: ~320 km

Closest city: Isparta ~5 km

The Gölcük caldera is located in southwestern Turkey, near the city of Isparta. Holocene activity is unconfirmed, however lava dome eruptions are known as recently as 24,000 years. The caldera was partially destroyed by a phreatoplinian eruption, and large pyroclastic flows were produced. Lava domes, lava flows and a maar have formed within the caldera, which is now partially occupied by a lake.
